SAS Gulf War hero and bestselling author hosts a special evening at north Sheffield restaurant

29 September 2022

Sheffield born SAS veteran turned author Des Powell will be the special guest at an “Evening With ….” event being held at Ponti’s Italian Kitchen in Stocksbridge later this autumn.

The event takes place on Thursday November 4th. The Fox Valley restaurant will be the venue for Des’ fascinating story which is told in his Times number 1 bestselling book Bravo Three Zero.

Des’ story epitomises the SAS motto Who Dares Wins and is the stuff of the elite forces’ legends.

Born in Darnall, Sheffield, Des was deployed for the same mission as Andy McNab – his book is co-written by writer and war correspondent Damien Lewis. It follows his first-hand account of what happened behind enemy lines during the first Gulf War.

There were three SAS patrols that fateful January 1991 as war in the Gulf intensified - Bravo One Zero, Andy McNab’s Bravo Two Zero patrol and Bravo Three Zero.  The SAS were deployed deep behind enemy lines to locate Saddam’s Scud missiles, which threatened a Third World War.

The author event is a rare opportunity to meet the man behind the remarkable story of a patrol trying to complete a crucial mission with faulty communications, unsuitable vehicles, and little cold weather clothing during a freezing Iraqi winter.

Des will also talk about his background and his tough early life in Sheffield which prepared him for a career in the SAS.

Des said: “I am really looking forward to returning to Sheffield for this event and talking about my life, experiences, and the story behind my book Bravo Three Zero.

“My working-class Yorkshire roots definitely gave me the grit and resourcefulness that I needed to deal with the situations I found myself in.”

Owner of Ponti’s Italian Kitchen, Stefano Ispani, said: “You can’t fail to be impressed by Des’ steely determination and bravery – for those of us who remember those days of the first Gulf War it really is a fascinating first-hand insight into what was happening on the ground.”

The candid author event on November 4th will include dinner with Des followed by an interview about his life and experiences in the SAS and an open Q&A session with guests. Des will also be available to sign copies of his book.

Tickets are £40 and include a welcome drink and three course dinner. To book your place for an unforgettable Evening With Des Powell contact Argys at Fox Valley on 0114 288 7475 or fv@pontis.co.uk
