A long-established shoe company which specialises in comfortable footwear is coming to Fox Valley.

McGilveray’s Restaurant and Bar is stepping aside to allow Pavers to move into the unit at the popular Stocksbridge-based shopping centre in the Spring.

Sharon Widdowson, Area Manager at Pavers, said: “We are so excited to be opening a store in Fox Valley.

“It is the perfect place for a leisurely shop with something for everyone. We are happy to be part of the team and can’t wait to meet all the customers and introduce Fox Valley to all Pavers has to offer.”

James Shepherd, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Ltd, which owns Fox Valley shopping centre, added: “We are thrilled Pavers have chosen to open a new store at Fox Valley. This will compliment our fantastic range of stores and further enhance the shopping experience here.

“Pavers are a long-established company and we are happy to welcome them on-board. This is fantastic news for our customers.”

The move will create seven jobs including a Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Supervisors and Sales Advisors.

The store will focus on footwear for adults and sell everything from shoes and trainers, to boots and slippers.

To mark the official opening of the store, which is currently set for April, the first 50 customers will be handed a free biscuit at the till made by The Biskery in Leeds.

Pavers was founded in York in 1971 by Catherine Paver, an ambitious mum to be proud of, who took out a £200 bank loan to fund her new business passion to find the perfect style for everyone’s feet.

The company started off small, at village halls and house parties, and through Catherine’s desire to source and sell shoes that fit well and look great, the company began to grow.

She was later joined by her sons, Graham, Stuart (Chair) and Ian, who have helped to nurture the family business and this desire, drive and passion to be a leader in stylish yet high quality comfort footwear. The current Managing Director is Jason Paver, Stuart’s son and Cathy’s grandson.

Pavers is now one of the UK’s leading comfort shoe retailers, and boasts more than 130 stores across the UK and Ireland.

The company offers a wide range of brands including Fly Flot, Skechers, Padders and many more.

For the fashion conscious, the store also offers the Bellissimo brand, encompassing the latest trends of the season.

The company is also environmentally-conscious and has installed a renewable energy system at their head office in York.

In 2020 Pavers was voted one of the top 20 retailers in the country to work for (Retail Week/Glassdoor), was recognised in the Sunday Times’ Top Track 250, and won Best Footwear Retailer (Multiple) at the Drapers Awards.

In 2023, they received a 3 Star accreditation from Best Companies reflecting their ‘world class’ levels of workplace engagement.

Since 2018, Pavers have donated over £2m through its Foundation and actively supports causes in areas of health, education, community, and the environment via its employee grant application scheme, charities of the year and donations made on behalf of the family.
