Fox Valley celebrates first birthday with a packed weekend of events

20 June 2017

North Sheffield's Fox Valley shopping centre has hosted a special weekend of family fun to celebrate the centre’s first birthday.

Thousands of people turned out for a packed three day programme of events and entertainment from 16th to 18th June marking the shopping centre’s special anniversary.

Fox Valley was officially opened by Joanna Lumley OBE on June 16th last year, in just 12 months the centre has won a prestigious regeneration award and hosted the dramatic final of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire.

The birthday celebrations started on Friday with special performances by the children of Deepcar St John’s Junior School and Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir and the launch of the centre’s first Food Festival.

Stiltwalkers, face painters and cooking demonstrations from local chefs hosted in the demo kitchen by Dearne FM’s Joe Sentence, were all part of the line up on Saturday as well as music from local bands and musicians in the fountain area.

And on Sunday the centre hosted some classic cars to celebrate Father’s Day as well as a host of other entertainment across the centre.

Centre Manager Annabel Plumtree said: “We had fantastic weather for the weekend and it has been great to see so many people come down and celebrate the centre’s first birthday with us.

“It’s been a fantastic first year at Fox Valley and the centre has been really well received. We have lots of exciting developments and events coming up as we start the centre’s second year.”

Fox Valley is home to a number of retailing "firsts" for this part of Yorkshire including South Yorkshire's only JoJo Maman Bebe store as well as the area's first M&Co. The first Ponti's Italian Kitchen outside London can also be found at Fox Valley as well as the centre's very own Boutique Department Store, Sandersons and a host of other national and independent retailers.

Just last month Dransfield Properties, the company behind the Fox Valley development, was announced as the winner of the RICS Pro-Yorkshire Award for Regeneration for the centre.
