Sandersons supports annual fun run to pay tribute to Penistone brothers

5 July 2018

The team at Sandersons Department store at Fox Valley are supporting a special charity fun run due to take place this weekend to raise funds in memory of Penistone brothers Jack and Paul Sykes.

It’s the third year that the 2km run has been staged on the trails around Penistone to help raise funds for the Heads Together (Barnsley) Charitable Trust. The charity was set up in memory of the brothers who tragically lost their lives in a house fire started by their father when they were just 12 and 9.

More than 230 people took part in the event last year which is organised by Penistone couple Steve and Emma Stead - the pair ran the London Marathon together for the same charity in April.

Last year runners ranged from 3 years old to 61 and raised an amazing £3,000 for charity covering a route starting from Penistone Bowling Club. This year’s event will also start at the club and is due to take place on Sunday 8th July at 10.30am.

Sandersons Department Store has donated the medals which will be presented to all the finishers by Jack and Paul’s Mum Claire Throssell.

Emma Stead said: “The support from the community we have had over the last two events has been fantastic and we are hoping for the same turnout this year to raise as much money as possible for this fantastic charity.  We’d like to say a big thank you to Sandersons for supporting the event again this year and providing the medals for all the runners.”

Store manager at Sandersons Lisa Fox said: “We are delighted to be supporting this fantastic community event in memory of two very special boys, we wish Emma and Steve all the very best for Sunday’s Fun Run.”

The route covers 2km over fields and trail and isn’t suitable for buggies  - under 7’s should be accompanied by an adult who should also enter the race.

Online entries cost £6.50 and you can register through the following link Entries will also be taken on the day, the event starts at 10:30am.
