Record numbers of people flock to Fox Valley for Coca-Cola Christmas cheer

3 December 2021

More than 10,000 people flocked to Fox Valley yesterday, breaking previous footfall records and giving rise to high hopes for a cracking Christmas at the Sheffield shopping centre.

The Coca-Cola Christmas Truck was the main attraction, with people queuing up to two hours to try their hand at a code-cracking quest and have their photograph taken with the iconic red truck. Meanwhile food stalls, market traders and shops and eateries all reported a bumper day.

Car parks at Fox Valley Way, Liberty Steel, Fox Valley Offices and Stocksbridge Park Steels were all full to capacity, with many more people taking the advice of Fox Valley’s pre-event publicity to find alternative ways to reach the event.

Centre Manager at Fox Valley, Claire Reynolds said: “The Coca-Cola Truck is always massively popular – we had one family who travelled from Hull to see it. Added to that were 35 Christmas market and food stalls and our regular retailers who all stayed open late, creating a brilliant festive atmosphere.

“After two years of Covid people are ready for a proper Christmas, which for many means shopping, eating out, music and lights, enjoyed with family and friends. We have a packed schedule of events at Fox Valley between now and Christmas Eve. Based on the crowds we saw yesterday we’re looking forward to a bumper season!”

Local family Tony, Debbie and Ethan Wrigley, joined by their dog Buddy, said they’d had a brilliant time at the event.

Debbie said: “We’ve had a great time. It was so lovely just to be out and about again and to see people having fun together. It does make you feel like Christmas is here.”

Christmas Markets are at Fox Valley’s Market Emporium this weekend, 3rd to 5th December 10am to 4pm, and Santa will be in residence in his grotto with his helpers from Wortley Rotary Club on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th December from 12.30pm to 3pm, helping to raise money for local charities.
