Meet George the Giraffe – the latest addition at Fox Valley

A striking 19ft tall grass giraffe has recently been installed at Fox Valley in North Sheffield – and young visitors to the centre have been busy guessing his name for the last two weeks.

A special competition was organised asking youngsters to guess the name of the new visitor to the north Sheffield shopping centre.

His name has now been announced as George the Giraffe! He was installed in the piazza area of the award-winning centre, just outside JoJo Maman Bebe, earlier in the month and he’s proved a popular spot for a photo opportunity ever since.

More than 100 entries were submitted with everything from Gerald to Lofty being suggested in the special post boxes at Sandersons and JoJo Maman Bebe.

After finding 3 correct guesses within the dozens of entries, judges placed the names in a hat to pick the winner – four-year-old Priya Latham.

Priya won a giraffe cuddly toy from JoJo Maman Bebe and a special box of goodies from Sandersons Department Store, including a skipping jump rope and bubble machine.

Priya who is from Mexborough said “I guessed the name George because I like to call him Georgie Porgie!”

Centre Manager Annabel Plumtree said: “We’re delighted that Priya guessed the name and hope she enjoys her lovely prizes.

“Our new giraffe in the fountain area seemed like the perfect friend for Bamboo the Bear, who has already proved very popular with our younger visitors.”

George the Giraffe stands tall outside JoJo Maman Bebe near the piazza area – be sure to come down and take a photo with him!
