Crowds turn out for Fox Valley’s BIG lights Switch On

20 November 2017

Thousands of people turned out to see the big Christmas Lights Switch On at Fox Valley with a packed evening of festive events on Friday (November 17th)

The winner of the Christmas card design competition Eve Porter-Bailey, aged eight, switched on the festive display along with the mayor of Stocksbridge Cllr Keith Davis and Father Christmas.

The crowds were treated to fantastic entertainment including performances from The South Yorkshire Rock Choir, Lauren McCaslin School of Theatre Dance as well as singers Alice Banister and Jordan Rabjohn who appeared on X Factor earlier this autumn.

St Ann’s School Choir started off the event with some festive songs and Deepcar Brass band also took part in the event which also featured horse and carriage rides, a Christmas themed market and Snow Queen stiltwalkers.

The stunning seven metre high reindeer is the centrepiece of the centre’s festive display with wreaths and lights across the whole centre as well as a traditional Christmas tree and new angel lights.

The Switch On was accompanied by a fabulous five minute firework display which lit up the skies above the north Sheffield shopping centre to mark the start of the build up to Christmas.

The event was hosted by Dearne FM’s Joe Sentence and sponsored by the Burrows Motor Company who also held a special competition throughout the event.

Fox Valley Centre Manager Annabel Plumtree said: “We would like to thank everyone who made the event such a great success, the crowds were fantastic and the Switch On really has started the busy Christmas shopping period here at Fox Valley.

“We have some really talented people in this part of South Yorkshire and it was great to be able to showcase that talent at the event. “We love seeing the centre all lit up and ready for Christmas and we have lots happening over the next few weeks throughout November and December.”

The centre is hosting the Coca Cola Truck Tour on Tuesday 28th November – the iconic Christmas truck will be at Fox Valley from 11am – 7pm.  Late night shopping every Thursday starts on November 30th.
