County gears up to welcome Tour de Yorkshire trophies
14 March 2017
Communities across Yorkshire are set to welcome the official Tour de Yorkshire trophies when they go on tour later this month. The trophies will be visiting Fox Valley on April 7th.
Both the men’s and women’s Y shaped trophies are visiting each of the six start and finishes for a day ahead of the race weekend and plans include visits to schools and leisure centres, as well as events in host towns and cities.
The trophies will be touring Bridlington on Monday, March 27, Scarborough on Tuesday, March 28, Tadcaster on Wednesday, March 29, Harrogate on Monday, April 3, Bradford on Tuesday, April 4 and Fox Valley on Friday, April 7.
Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The trophy tour is always a hugely popular event in the run up to race weekend and this year it will be even more special with the addition of the women’s trophy.
“Each host local authority is pulling together an exciting timetable of events so I hope communities will come out to see the trophy and build excitement for the race.”
The trophies have been designed and made by hand at world leading trophy makers Thomas Fattorini based in Yorkshire. In 2016, the men’s trophy was won by Direct Energie’s Thomas Voeckler, while Kirsten Wild of Hitec-Products took home the women’s trophy.
Organisers will be announcing the teams whose riders will battle it out to raise the trophies in the next few weeks.
The trophy tour will include schools in Stocksbridge, Deepcar and Penistone as well Stocksbridge Leisure Centre and it will also be visiting Fox Valley during the centre’s Friday Market on April 7th. Fox Valley is the finish line of the Tour de Yorkshire, the north Sheffield shopping centre is owned and managed by Dransfield Properties.
Each host local authority has made arrangements for the trophy’s visit and media will be alerted to activities while it is on tour.
