Alan Johnson to make special visit to Fox Valley restaurant

The veteran politician Alan Johnson will be the special celebrity guest at an “Evening With…” event at Ponti’s Italian Kitchen in north Sheffield next month.

The event is due to take place on Thursday 12th September in the restaurant’s private dining room. Tickets include a three-course meal prepared by the restaurant’s chef Roberto Huza followed by a fascinating after dinner talk by Alan Johnson and a guest’s Q&A session.

Alan was General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union before entering Parliament as Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle in 1997.  He served as Home Secretary from June 2009 to May 2010 and before that filled a number of cabinet positions in the Blair and the Brown governments.

His childhood memoir ‘This Boy’ was published by Bantam Press on 9th May 2013. It won the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize, and the Orwell Prize, Britain's top political writing award. 

A second volume of memoirs ‘Please Mr Postman’, was published in September 2014 and won the National Book Club award for Best Biography.

Alan retired as an MP before the 2017 general election after 20 years as an MP and lives with his wife Carolyn in East Yorkshire.
