Ponti's Italian Kitchen is the real Italian Job

An Italian restaurant which opened in Sheffield less than six months ago has been awarded its native country's highest culinary accolade - making it the first restaurant in the region to receive the coveted award.

Pontis Italian Kitchen, at Fox Valley in north Sheffield, is one of only 16 UK restaurants to be awarded the coveted Ospitalità Italiana in 2016 - bestowed every year on an elite group of restaurants around the world which can demonstrate their Italian authenticity.

Everything from tableware to wine, produce and front of house presentation has to reach the rigorous standards of the Ospitalità Italiana judges, who award the sought after seal of approval to those restaurants giving a truly authentic Italian experience to their guests.

The kitemark-style award comes from Camere di Commercio D’Italia - the Italian Chamber of Commerce - and is only awarded to those who demonstrate they can achieve the rigorous quality standard.

Founded in 1963 Ponti's Italian Kitchen has two restaurants in London and selected north Sheffield's new Fox Valley development for the company's first restaurant in the north of England earlier this year, when the new £50 million retail and leisure destination opened in June.

The restaurant's culinary heart in the Emilia-Romagna region - know as the garden of Italy - which inspires the menu at the Sheffield restaurant as well as its extensive wine list and approach to traditional Italian hospitality.

General manager at Ponti's Italian Kitchen at Fox Valley Argys Myrtja said: "This really does feel like winning the Oscars for us!

"The Ospitalità Italiana certification only rewards restaurants who are genuine in their approach to a real Italian culinary experience and they look at every single aspect of our approach to food and business.

"Achieving this award just a few months after opening our new restaurant at Fox Valley is fantastic news and a great achievement for our whole team - from the chefs who prepare our authentic Italian dishes to the waiting staff who aim to give a real Ponti's welcome to all our guests."

The team at Ponti's Italian Kitchen prepare all their dishes in house including the restaurants delicious Italian breads and biscotti.

The restaurant can be found in the piazza area at Fox Valley with a popular outdoor dining area overlooking the centre's fountains, there is also a first floor dining area and Spumante bar.
