Aldi announced as anchor food store at £42 million Fox Valley scheme

7 July 2015

ALDI is bringing its brand new larger format store to the new Fox Valley development in north Sheffield when the town centre retail and office scheme opens in spring 2016.

The supermarket chain has been named as the Which? Best Supermarket for 2015, the fourth time the supermarket has won this prestigious award.  Aldi now have more than 550 stores across the UK and employ over 23,000 members of staff.

The company is currently rolling out a new design and format and has selected Fox Valley for its brand new 20,000 sq. ft. north Sheffield store, making it the region’s largest ALDI.

The ALDI store will anchor the 136,000 sq. ft. of new retail and restaurant space currently being built at Fox Valley, taking a prime unit in the town centre development where a Tesco store was previously planned.

The store will create at least 30 new jobs on a permenant full and part time basis.

The Fox Valley ALDI store will be built in one of the three retail blocks at the centre which are set around a 600 space car park – it will sit alongside a pharmacy and Medical Centre as well as three further retail or leisure units.

Work on two of the three retail blocks is already well underway and on schedule for opening next spring.

Three new office buildings are also due to be completed later this month ready for new businesses to move into at the £42 million development, which is being delivered by the award winning South Yorkshire firm Dransfield Properties Ltd.

Glen Stidever, Property Director at ALDI, said: “Aldi is now delighted to report that we are committed to investing in the Fox Valley town centre scheme at Stocksbridge and look forward to opening our doors to new customers in Spring 2016.

“We have worked closely with Dransfield Properties to deliver a store that will anchor the Fox Valley scheme, the largest of its kind in Sheffield. We will begin our recruitment for the new store later this year and will advertise the positions available locally in due course.

“We are proud to have again been voted the Which? Best Supermarket for 2015 and look forward to bringing our award winning store to north Sheffield  next Spring.”

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Ltd, said: “We have worked with ALDI since Dransfield Properties was first founded 23 years ago and its fantastic to see how the company has evolved and expanded over that time to become one of the major players in the market.

“We are absolutely delighted to be announcing that ALDI will be the foodstore anchor at Fox Valley with the company’s new format store.

“When TESCO announced earlier this year that they would not be proceeding with their new store, we were determined to work on a scheme which would bring even more choice and a more diverse retail mix to the area.”

The development has received a good level of interest from both national and regional retailers and is currently 65 per cent pre-let, further announcements about the retail line-up will be made in the next few weeks.

As well as the new office and retail development at Fox Valley, a new housing development with 114 executive homes is also being  developed on a neighbouring site. A new access road from the A616 Sheffield to Manchester has been created as part of the town centre scheme.
